Playing PvP

PvP covers several ways to fight other players, from organized duels to combat within a persistent world. Client version alone may not describe the combat system, because servers can change attack timing, equipment and damage rules.

Before you choose a server

  • Compare attack timing, shields and combat changes rather than relying only on the supported version.
  • Find out whether equipment is supplied in kits or earned through regular play.
  • Read matchmaking, combat logging and item loss rules.

How to join

Open a server page to check its supported editions, versions and entry requirements. Use the address shown for your edition.

Java Edition

  1. Copy the Java IP from the server page.
  2. In Minecraft, open Multiplayer, then Add Server.
  3. Paste it into Server Address, save and join.

Bedrock Edition

  1. Copy the Bedrock IP and note the separate port.
  2. On mobile or Windows, open Play, then Servers and Add Server.
  3. Enter the IP in Server Address and the listed port in Port, then save and join.

Console editions generally do not offer the same Add Server option. Crossplay is available only when the listing supports both editions. Follow any whitelist or modpack instructions on the server page.

Common questions

Does my Minecraft version determine the server's combat style?

Not always. A server may accept several client versions while using plugins to change combat mechanics. Read how attack cooldowns, shields and damage work, and check whether the server recommends a particular version. Trying a practice area can help you judge the mechanics before entering a competitive match.

Will I lose my items if I lose a fight?

That depends on the mode and arena. Kit duels may supply equipment for each match, while open-world combat can put your own inventory at risk. Read death and combat logging rules before joining a fight. Also check whether ranked matches, casual matches and event arenas use different settings.
